The sheet won't rot, so the hardware can't be the weak link. Every drawer we build shuts on a Marine Town flush catch and runs on Sugatsune slides, both in solid stainless steel.

Marine Town®

A low-profile stainless flush pull, the catch you'll find on lockers, galley doors and drawers right across the fleet. It sits down in the door, self-latches when you push it shut, and lets go with a finger in the pull, so there's nothing standing proud to catch a line or a shin. Supplied with the keeper, in locking or non-locking, and the 7.5–13.5mm door range takes our 12.7mm sheet.

Sugatsune®

Sugatsune has made hardware in Tokyo since 1930, for everything from fine cabinetry to yachts. The ESR is a three-part, ball-bearing slide in 304 stainless steel. It runs out to full extension, so you can reach the very back of the drawer, and a positive stop holds it at the end of its travel instead of dropping it in your lap.

We use genuine King StarBoard®, a high-density polyethylene sheet made for marine use in the USA by King Plastic Corporation. It's UV stabilised, textured both sides, and the colour goes right through, so scratches don't show a different layer underneath. It won't absorb water, which is why it can't rot, swell or delaminate the way coated plywood does.

Most cabinets, doors, drawers and hatches are 12.7mm. Seat bases, bait boards and anything that carries weight go up to 19mm, liners and trims use 6.4mm, and steps or standing areas get 12.7mm anti-slip.

We stock White/White, Arctic White, Seafoam, Light Gray, Dolphin Gray and Black. Other King StarBoard® colours can often be ordered in, so ask if you need to match something specific.

316 stainless fasteners, hinges and latches, with stainless drawer slides and threaded inserts wherever a screw would otherwise pull out. It's the hardware that usually fails first on a boat, so we don't cut corners on it.

Yes. Boat names, logos, switch labels and bait-board rulers are laser engraved straight into the sheet, so there's nothing to peel, fade or wash off.

Soapy water and a soft brush is all it needs. There's no varnish to protect and nothing to sand or re-coat. King Plastic's care guide is in Downloads if you want the detail.

No. King StarBoard® is UV stabilised right through, so it holds its colour and stays tough. Like any dark surface, the darker colours will feel warm in direct sun.

Both. Local boats usually come to the workshop or we template on site and fit it ourselves. Further afield, we build from your measurements and ship it flat-packed with the hardware and a fitting guide.

Measure the cut-out height and width at the tightest point, then the clear depth behind it, and send a few photos with a tape measure in shot. For drawer units, the Build your own tool walks you through it.

It depends on size, the number of drawers or doors, and the hardware. Build your own gives an indicative price for a drawer unit, and for everything else we'll send a written quote from your sizes and photos.

A single hatch or dash panel is usually one to two weeks. A tackle station runs about three, and a full galley or cockpit fit-out four to six. We book boats in so your downtime is the fitting week, not the whole build.

Yes. Parts are packed flat with the hardware and a fitting guide, and freighted anywhere in Australia ready to go in.

That's most of what we do. We template off the old units or the openings they leave, so the new cabinetry drops into the same space, usually using the existing cut-outs.

Usually, yes. Send a photo and we'll match the sheet colour and the hardware style so a new locker doesn't announce itself next to the factory ones.

A good share of our work is trade. We hold drawings for repeat hull models, so a builder can order the same fit-out kit boat after boat and know it will drop in.
